Learn about seat booking status terms, booking travel classes, quotas, and reservation tricks.
How to Check Train Seat Availability?
Checking train seat availability is the first step in planning a journey. By querying the live IRCTC databases, you can view how many seats are left in your desired travel class (such as Sleeper, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier, etc.) for a specific date, helping you decide whether to book immediately or look for alternate trains.
Understanding Seat Availability Booking Statuses
When searching for train tickets, you will encounter the following seat booking statuses:
- AVAILABLE: Confirmed seats are ready to book.
- RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation): Guaranteed seat for travel, sharing a side-lower berth.
