You can check your PNR status online by entering your 10-digit PNR number in the search input box above and clicking Check PNR Status. The tool fetches data from third-party railway APIs to show current confirmation status, coach position, and passenger details. Always verify on IRCTC before travel.
CNF means Confirmed (seat allocated). RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) means you share a berth with another passenger, allowing travel. WL (Waiting List) means you do not have a confirmed seat and can only travel if other bookings are cancelled.
GNWL (General Waiting List) has the highest confirmation chance as it is for passengers starting from the originating station. RLWL (Remote Location Waiting List) is for intermediate stations, and PQWL (Pooled Quota Waiting List) is shared across smaller intermediate stations, having lower confirmation chances.
The final chart is typically prepared 4 hours before the train's scheduled departure from the originating station. For morning trains, it may be prepared the previous evening. Once the chart is prepared, RAC/WL statuses are finalized.
If you booked an e-ticket online and it remains on the Waiting List (WL) after chart preparation, it is automatically cancelled and refunded; you cannot travel. However, if it's a physical ticket purchased at a railway counter, you are allowed to travel in general/unreserved compartments.
Yes. When a confirmed passenger cancels, the PNR status refreshes automatically and waitlisted passengers may move to RAC or CNF within minutes before the final chart is prepared.
Nearly all reserved Indian Railways trains support online PNR status checks. If the train has not yet departed or is not running today, the status may show "Not Started" or "Unable to fetch."
On a physical counter ticket, the 10-digit PNR number is located in the top-left corner. On an e-ticket (IRCTC booking PDF), it is found at the top under the transaction details, and is also included in the confirmation email/SMS.
